SUMMARY:WNY Food: Honey Harvest Festival
DESCRIPTION:WNY’s Sweetest Festival at Masterson’s \nHoney harvesting time is right around the corner in East Aurora\, and the beekeepers at Masterson’s want to invite you to come out and get sticky! The annual Honey Harvest Festival is taking place Saturday\, October 3rd at Masterson’s southtowns garden center. See firsthand how the honey moves from the beehives\, located right on the garden center’s property\, to the jars available on the shelf. Local beekeepers will be on hand to demonstrate the process\, and you can even try your hand at spinning a few frames. \nDon’t miss the Honey Taste Contest\, everyone’s favorite part of the event. Taste samples of local honey submitted by beekeepers throughout WNY and vote for your favorite. If you think honey is just honey\, then prepare to be surprised by the variation in color and flavor that each hive can produce! \nIt wouldn’t be the Honey Festival without some traditional honey treats\, including a variety of meads\, wines and beers as well as ice cream and honey-infused treats. Food and drink vendors will be joined by local artisans\, showcasing a wide variety of handmade goods\, from herbal remedies to cozy alpaca socks. \nPlan to spend time tasting honey\, watching demonstrations\, even taking a free class or two! There will be lots of activities for the little ones as well. The Honey Harvest Festival is free and open to the public. More information and a schedule of events can be found on Masterson’s website\, http://www.mastersons.net.

SUMMARY:Buffalo Art: Kurt Treeby 'I've Got Next' - video games and art historical themes
DESCRIPTION:For this exhibition\, Buffalo artist Kurt Treeby will create three fully playable video games based on art historical themes. Adopting a retro style derived from consoles such as the Atari 2600 or Nintendo Entertainment System\, the project will include the games Constantin Brancusi’s Endless Column\, Picasso’s War\, and Un Chien Andalou. \nThese new games draw on art historical themes in the same manner as Treeby’s previous works in fiber\, utilizing imagery appropriated from pre-existing paintings and sculptures. In his fiber pieces\, the works resolve naturally into a pixelated form through crochet or cross stitch. In order to bridge this visual connection from fiber to pixels\, Treeby taught himself Game Maker Studio in order to produce work that is literally playable and not merely referential toward the form. \nWhile video games are one of the largest and most lucrative realms of the entertainment industry\, they remain\, even after many decades of development\, targets of censure and criticism — they exalt violence\, they promote anti-social behavior\, they are gigantic time sinks\, they contribute little to culture\, and so on. The truth is more complex — the sorts of unique experiences created within games are not at all dissimilar from the effects produced by great works of art (because that’s what they can be). They are filled with creative obstacles and demand creative solutions. They engage mechanisms of critical thinking. They are fueled by imagination. And the spontaneous experiences they generate — a combination of their design and how the player plays — can frequently land in a sublime place. \nIn these ways\, we discover rapidly that they are no dissimilar from that which we more commonly call art. \nThe exhibit runs through Oct. 30.

DESCRIPTION:The Broadway hit; Nuts has been called the best courtroom drama since\nWitness for the Prosecution and The Caine Mutiny Court Martial. Set in\na courtroom in ew York’s Bellevue Hospital\, the story follows a\nhigh-priced call girl incarcerated on a charge for killing a violent client. \nThe state\, represented by an aggressive prosecutor and a court appointed psychiatrist\, say Claudia Faith Draper is unfit to stand trial.
