SUMMARY:Buffalo History: My City Smells Like Cereal
DESCRIPTION:The Grosvenor Room is proud to host a series of free local history lectures in 2026\, lead by experts from Explore Buffalo. Join us on March 7\, National Cereal Day\, at 1:00 PM in the Ring of Knowledge for the first installation\, “My City Smells Like Cheerios: The History of Cereal.” This program is free; all ages are welcome. \nOn a warm\, breezy summer day\, that sweet aroma wafting over the city will tell you they’re making Cheerios. But why here in Buffalo? And how did breakfast cereal become a thing — what is the connection to health sanitariums? Hear the story of how Cheerios came to be made in Buffalo and how dry breakfast cereal ready to eat right out of the box began in Central New York — and even cereal’s connection to Mar-a-Lago! \nWith presenter Cheryl McDonald. Before retiring\, Cheryl McDonald worked as a human resource manager at Chicago Title for twenty years. After retirement\, she took a training program to be a Buffalo tour guide; that led to being a founding member of Explore Buffalo. Cheryl now serves on various committees and gives all four of the Delaware Avenue Tours. In a previous life\, Cheryl served as the president of the Women’s Club of Aurora’s (member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs) for two years. The thing that Cheryl loves most about Buffalo is obviously the people. \n(This event is not affiliated with General Mills\, owner of Cheerios®.)
