Screening of “My Name is Pauli Murray” at The Screening Room Cinema & Arts Cafe. A multiracial Black and LGBTQ+ pioneer, Murray broke barriers as the first Black person to earn a JSD from Yale Law School, co-founded the National Organization for Women, and was the first Black person perceived as a woman ordained in the Episcopal Church. Collecting donations for the Pauli Murray Foundation. 1pm

Celebration of Walt Whitman at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Martin House. Walt Whitman was one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s favorite writers and an important influence on his work. On May 31, Walt turns 206, while on June 8, Frank turns 158. Talk on Whitman and Wright by Karen Karbiener, founding of the Walt Whitman Initiative and author of a forthcoming Whitman biography. Recitations of Whitman’s poetry by actors from Ujima Theatre. Performance by the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus, previewing their world premiere of A Whitman Symphony, with compositions by Lee Hoiby from texts by Whitman. Addmission is free but space is limited so reservations are required. 430 – 6pm
