For many, the news for this month is Turnstile coming to the the Outer Harbor at 7 pm. Sunday (Sept. 21). Following the release of “Never Enough,” the Baltimore-based band has made big waves in the hardcore-punk scene and the enthusiasm for their show is high.
But for the rest of us, ticket prices for the show being $75 (including fees), the alternative is not so bad: a check-in with the hardcore scene that lives here in the City of Good Neighbors.
Jeweltone, Pilot-Field, the Mausoleums and Super Flea will be playing at 1 p.m., at the Buffalo Tap House, preceeding the Turnstile concert at Terminal B. It will be the first concert the venue at 85 W. Chippewa St. has hosed.
Cooper Taylor of Super Flea said he’s been into Turnstile since their record “Step to Rhythm.”
“It’s cool to see a DIY hardcore band get so large and in the limelight of mainstream music these days,” he said. “I think it can only do good things for the DIY community all around.”
“Unfortunately I missed out on a ticket to that show after this matinee we all are gunna play, but I think all my friends and everyone’s gnnna have a real good time.”

Super Flea is a new comer to the hardcore scene, though its members have been playing in other bands since 2019. This is Super Flea’s first official show as a band.
Another Buffalo band on the bill is Jeweltone, a group fronted by the former Freak The Mighty, Neftali (aka Daniel Bonilla), joining with Christian Adams and Jordan Walker.

Adams said in a statement, “We’re excited about this show for a few reasons. We’ll be playing with a lot of friends who are also very active in the scene and every show is a chance to celebrate our unity. All of the bands are great and one of the bands, Super Flea, is a new project that I’m excited to check out.
“This will be the first show held at Buffalo Taphouse; I’ve heard that they have worked really hard to make their space playable and accessible for shows and Buffalo can really use more venues right now.
“I’m really hoping to not only share the day with our friends who always pull up to support us, but to also share this thing with some new people. I think it can be a good opportunity to expose new people to our scene and to show something special that Buffalo has to offer.”
As for Super Flea, they are also excited to play with Jeweltone and the other bands at the pre-show.
“I think they all have their own thing going on that makes each one unique, but still able to jive with one another in the same night,” Cooper said. “A very over all ‘Buffalo’ sound, (that) I’d say each band has. All very good musicians and folks who have been doing it for a very long time.
“So Flea is definitely super grateful to be a part of this bill for Buffalo hardcore.”
Tickets to Turnstile are still available for purchase as of today (Sept. 18). Ticket holders for the Turnstile show can come to the pre-party at the Buffalo Tap House for free. Others only have to pay $5. Long live Buffalo hardcore.
