Science Man’s John Toohill responded to questions about his release show for “Monarch Joy,” the hardcore band’s newest album, with a long response via Instagram.

Science Man will be sharing the bill with the Oi! band Big Dog, newly formed Razorface and One Way Terror in Duende at Silo City on Friday, May 23, at 8 p.m.

This is what he had to say:

“A few years ago when I first started doing some of my shows outside at Duende, someone told me it was ‘like Noah’s Ark. There is two of everybody here,'” he said. “And that got me real pumped cuz, I like to imagine we’re cultivating the types of shows that attract a lot of different scenes. Nobody is outnumbered or feels uninvited or not any certain way enough to attend. So it made sense to have this big LP release show at Duende and (weather permitting) outside.”

Toohill added, “The three other bands besides Science Man all have members who have at one point been in Science Man and simultaneously make very different music under the punk umbrella. Lucas from Razorface has played guitar (and sang) in SM at different times. Drew and Mason from Big Dog have done drums/guitar for me. Dave, from One Way Terror, has also picked up the guitar to support me many times and performed on a few songs off the new LP.”

“The dream is to connect the dots of all those different people and scenes to have a good time together and I like to think that is what will happen.”
