Final night at the Mohawk … or not?

By Elmer Ploetz

Now the wait begins to find out the details of what the future holds for 47 East Mohawk Street.

The long-running music venue and dive bar officially closed its doors Friday night/Saturday morning, with HUNS playing the final set of a two-night farewell celebration.

Yet the final night didn’t seem have the wake-like atmosphere that was present the first time the club closed in 2013 (only to reopen about 1 1/2 years later). The performers gave hints that there was hope for a future for the bar and it seemed more a question of who and when rather than whether the Mohawk Place would be resurrected for a second time. Social media posts from the Mohawk have said “last ever … for now.”

There have been reports of negotiations with a buyer. Keep an eye here on The Buffalo Hive for when details become public.

Meanwhile, appropriately for the Mohawk Place, the music went on with sets ranging from Americana to metal to garage rock. Here are some photos from the sets this writer was able to catch.
