Welcome to Hive Highlights; a weekly exhibits roundup from The Buffalo Hive. This showcase is meant to point you to gallery openings, ongoing exhibits, closings, artist talks and happenings in the visual arts community of Western New York for the week/end ahead. These lists are not designed to be comprehensive, instead providing a keyhole into the creative hum of our region. 

  1. Poetic Passages: Burchfield from Munson Museum of Art, on view at Burchfield Penney Art Center

Experience 24 iconic works by artist Charles E. Burchfield here on loan from Munson Museum of Art in Utica. Burchfield was a WNY artist most famous for his iconic nature depictions in watercolor drawings and paintings. This exhibition features early works from 1917 and ranges to feature later works such as The Sphinx and The Milky Way (1946). This is on view until July 22.

A collection of handmade tablets, photographs and inkjet prints are featured in this exhibition, where Hernandez draws from his Mexican/Northwest American background. His works explore cross-cultural experiences and photographs exhibiting specific and significant geographical locations, everything of which is rooted in time. Hernandez is an MFA candidate at the University at Buffalo.

    ONGOING, Through April 26, 2025 | Artist Talk April 12 @ 1pm

Multimedia artist Cole Pawlowski adds contrasting pop colors to the Allen Street gallery walls. With mindfulness and balance at the forefront, his work connects the viewer with the piece in an almost psychedelic way. He has pieces for sale as well including coasters and prints to take home. An artist talk will be held on Saturday (April 12) at 1 p.m.
