Local Spotlight: Rapper Shogun Wiz
His Old-School Style is Featured On A New Single

Shogun Wiz hails from Buffalo’s West Side and is his old-school, 80s-90s Boom-Bap style is gaining attention after the release his album “Shogun Kiss.”
In a recent interview, Shogun cited Conway, A Tribe Called Quest, Rakim, and Method Man as influences, and you can hear it on his new album Shogun Kiss, which calls back Run DMC’s “Rock Box” and “Walk This Way.” Shogun’s latest single “N.F.W.M.” was produced by Tameron Diddle and features his 10-year-old daughter in the music video.
When asked about his name he explained, “‘Shogun’ is a Japanese word for “commander” and “wiz” is short for wisdom. I like Japanese culture so I put them together.”
Shogun released “Shogun Kiss” on his own Ruff Buff Entertainment, a recording label which includes artists such as Danny Don Dada, GG Fumez, Los Medz, and Free, along with producers Tameron Diddle and Mency Beats.
