By Elmer Ploetz

It was just one line in the weekly Mohawk Place email Thursday night (Jan. 9): “Mohawk Place will indeed be closing at the end of the month.”

New to the schedule is the farewell show on Friday, Jan. 31, featuring Handsome Jack, The Irving Klaws, Evil Things, Malarchuk, Nine Layers Deep, Cooler and “others.” The show has a 4 p.m. door time, with performances starting at 5 p.m. and likely lasting late into the night and, who knows, maybe the morning,

Other shows that are scheduled for this month are still on the schedule, including:

  • The GOA and Hold Out recording release show with Do Crime, On the Cinder and Bile Study on Friday, Jan. 10.
  • The Damages, The Queen Guillotined and Mental Anguish show on Friday, Jan. 17.
  • The Mat Kerekes, Equipment and Bike Routes show on Saturday, Jan. 18.
  • Winter Reigns V, with the Last Reign, Winter Nights, Kill Uncle and Morgue Terror on Saturday, Jan. 25.

Two February shows have already been moved:

  • Brooke Surgener & Star Theory, Nancy Dunkle and Akloh on Feb. 8 has been moved to the Rec Room.
  • Sarah & the Safe Word with Everybody’s Worried About Owen, Machinery of the Human Heart and All Maine Points has been moved to the Evening Star Concert Hall in Niagara Falls.

A third show, with Fooled By Eve, Seneca Peak and Dead Orchids, is in the process of being moved.
