Mohawk sale, reopening confirmed

Plans call for creation of a nonprofit to preserve music venue

The Mohawk Place, Buffalo’s legendary dive bar and punk/Americana showcase, confirmed early this morning (March 4, 2025) that the building has been sold.

An early morning email reported “47 East Mohawk Street has officially changed hands with the goal to reopen Mohawk Place with a renewed sense of purpose – being a reliable and welcoming space for local and national music acts to play in downtown Buffalo.”

It said the goal is create a nonprofit entity that will make sure the Mohawk stays viable for decades to come.

Plans call for a non-profit will be formed in the next month and a fundraiser to raise funds to save the Mohawk, including updates to the sound equipment, repairs, replacements and overhauling the bar.

As reported last night, the papers for teh deal were signed the night of the closing show of the Mohawk under its previous management on Jan. 31.

The buyers of the building (and Electric Avenue next door) are Bernice Radle (executive director of Preservation Buffalo) and local businessman Frank DiMaria.
