Podcast: Dick Bauerle joins Rockabilly Greg in the Flamingo Lounge
On February 20, 2026, the Kenilworth Branch Library hosted an intimate evening with Dick Bauerle, a celebrated Buffalo Music Hall of Fame inductee. Bauerle captivated the audience with stories from his expansive musical journey, offering a rare glimpse into the life of a professional musician. A poignant highlight of the night was Bauerle’s tribute to the late Art Kubera, emphasizing Kubera’s profound and lasting influence on the Western New York music scene.
The event felt even more historic with fellow Hall of Famer Carol Jean Fremy Swist in attendance. Swist added her own voice to the tribute, sharing personal reflections on her professional association with Mr. Kubera, further cementing his legacy as a cornerstone of the local industry.
From a $20 acoustic guitar inspired by the Beatles’ debut to the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame, Dick Bauerle’s career is a masterclass in musical evolution. A veteran of the Western New York scene, he rose to prominence with the legendary band Hardtimes before co-founding Select Sound Studios in 1975. As an elite producer and session guitarist, he’s collaborated with icons like Rick James and Paul Shaffer. Whether topping smooth jazz charts on Atlantic Records or landing tracks in Mel Brooks’ Spaceballs, Bauerle’s “musical muse” has traversed pop, country, and jazz. This is the story of a true sonic architect.
