Buffalo Waterfront is rounding off Pride Month with a celebration of the LGBTQIA2S+ community at Outer Harbor with a night filled with local and national drag talent and queer artists.
The event, “Pride at Terminal B,” will be held on Saturday, June 28, at Terminal B at the Outer Harbor in downtown Buffalo.
Lauren Moloney Ford, general manager of Buffalo Waterfront, believes this is a great way to end Pride Month.
“It’s just kind of an exciting way to celebrate the community and bring people out and celebrate the end of the month,” she said. “In Buffalo, you can start the month out with [the Pride Parade] and then end it out at Terminal B, it’s just a big community celebration out there.”
Headlining the event is Bob the Drag Queen, the alter ego of non-binary comic and actor Caldwell Tidicue.
She describes herself as “hilarious, beautiful, talented and … humble,” and recently won the title of “America’s Next Drag Superstar” on Season 8 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
Bob the Drag Queen has also appeared in multiple acting roles for organizations such as HBO, Netflix and MTV, as well as being a contestant on the reality show “The Traitors.”
Also on the bill is Rebecca Black, a well-known figure in underground music, fashion and queer art, most commonly recognized for her 2011 release “Friday.”
The night will be opened by a variety of local drag performers and music from DJ Nor.th Star, DJ Lydvicious and DJ Brian Buttlett.
Pride at Terminal B will be unique to other upcoming events at Terminal B, as it will not only feature live music and entertainment, but also retail vendors and nonprofit organizations, as well as food and drink.
The nonprofit organizations will be giving out both information and resources at the event. Below is a list of vendors and organizations that will be in attendance:
- Erie County Family Planning Center
- Evergreen Health
- ECDOH
- GLYS WNY
- Pride Center of WNY
- Get a Grip Studios
- Earthwise Pet Hamburg
- Divas Who
- Ouroboro Hot Sauce
- House of Raige LLC
- The Lavender Room
- Sahlen’s Food Truck
- Jet’s Pizza
- Pete’s Hoagie Roller
- Coyote Cafe
Ford said that this will be an all-day event.
“I think people should come out and definitely experience the we have an incredible lineup of local drag performers that are starting the day off with us, and we would encourage people to come out and make a full day of it between those performers, local DJs, Bob the Drag Queen, and then we have a amazing VIP experience as well that we’d encourage people to look into,” she said.
VIP ticket holders will have the opportunity to meet Danielle Cabral, business owner and lifestyle influencer from Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of New Jersey.”
In addition, the event’s VIP experience includes one drink with cost of ticket, access to Honda VIP tent and VIP restroom trailer and a snack pop up from Meet & Eat Charcuterie.
“There’s just a lot of different things to experience throughout the day. So we’d encourage people to make a day of the celebration,” Ford said.
A portion of the proceeds will be benefiting Evergreen Health and Niagara Pride.
Evergreen Health provides a variety of medical, supportive and behavioral health services, such as a full-service pharmacy, adult and pediatric primary care, mental health care, sexual health testing and care and a variety of other services in Buffalo and Jamestown.
Evergreen Health also specializes in providing care to individuals LGBTQIAS2+ community, with services including gender-affirming primary care, hormone replacement therapy, linkage to gender-affirming pelvic health care, linkage to gender-affirming surgery providers and linkage to legal name and gender marker change assistance, according to their website.
“They’re a fantastic organization,” Ford said.
Evergreen Health has partnered with Buffalo Waterfront for previous events, including the Pride Festival at Canalside.
As this year efforts were focused solely on the parade, Ford explained that Evergreen still wanted to continue to celebrate Pride Month.
“We wanted to continue our celebration of Pride Month,” she said. “This opportunity came up to host Bob the Drag Queen, and we thought it was important to tie in a local organization.”
Some proceeds will also benefit Niagara Pride, a nonprofit organization offering charitable works and programming to the community.
“Niagara Pride’s event is actually the same day as ours. This is a way to kind of honor their event at our event, and continue the celebration region wide,” Ford said.
Niagara Pride also provides LGBTQIA2S+ services, including educational funding opportunities for schools, youth and adults, as well as free community-based affirming supportive services in the most rural and underserved communities of WNY.
Ford said she hopes the event can serve as a place for the community to join in on celebrating Pride here in Buffalo.
“I am hoping that it’s a way that people can just come together and celebrate who they are,” Ford said. “I think right now, it’s just really important to be celebrating that, and we hope that we can be an outlet and a venue for that.”
The show will start at 4 p.m. on June 28, with gates opening at 3 p.m.
General admission tickets to the event are $27.50 (plus taxes and fees) and VIP tickets are $60 (plus taxes and fees). You can secure yours here.
Regarding event parking and transportation, Ford said that there will be free event parking at the event, but there is also a Reddy Bike Share station right next to the venue along Fuhrmann Boulevard.
“There’s different options for people to be able to get on site if they don’t have a vehicle or don’t want to drive out there,” Ford said.
There will also be a bike valet available on site, as well as designated rideshare pickup locations.
