Queertopia event switches to remembrance for Mickey Harmon, Jordan Celotto

Mickey Harmon had been one of the main two organizers for the initial Queertopia at Nietzsche’s on Allen Street in Buffalo.

Now Saturday night’s Queertopia will be a remembrance of Harmon and his partner, Jordan Celotto, who were slain in their home Tuesday. The tragedy is a huge loss to the Allentown and Buffalo communities.

The event’s other main organizer, Scott Rankle, said in a social media post, “I’m still trying to wrap my head around this tragedy. This devastating loss will be with us for a long time, but so will their light and legacy.

“So with that, we’ve decided to suspend our scheduled programming and shift Queertopia into a night of remembrance and celebration of Mickey & Jordan.”

The event will still be Saturday (March 8) at Nietzsche’s, 248 Allen Street, starting at 8 p.m.

Admission will now be free; donations to the Buffalo-Niagara LGBTQ History Project will be accepted. Proceeds from presale tickets will be donated.

Queertopia was intended to “celebrate WNY current queer artists and continue a long, rich history of LGBTQAi+ life in Allentown, Buffalo’s Historic District.” Poets, spoken word artists, musicians, comedians and drag artists were to perform for a two-hour block, followed by a DJ and dancing. Now it’s a memorial to Harmon and Celotto as well.
