Welcome to the Buffalodown, thank you for your attention!

As an ambassador for the Ralph Wilson Park Conservancy, I’m excited to see a sea of community this weekend in the new addition to the park – along 4th Street on the neighborhood side of the I-190, please help us build a playground, it’s gonna take hundreds of us!

A brand-new playground is coming to the 4th Street side of Ralph Wilson Park — and we need your help to make it happen! From September 25–27, volunteers will join forces with the Ralph Wilson Park Conservancy, the City of Buffalo, KABOOM! and our partners to build an incredible new playspace for our community.

 Sept. 25 & 26 | 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM
 Sept. 27 | 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM
 450 4th Street, Buffalo

No experience required — breakfast, lunch, snacks, and tools are provided. Volunteers must be 18+.

Musings on Music

Beloved Community in the Old First Ward

Folks in Buffalo’s Old First Ward are proud of their heritage as part of the working-class heart of our city – so much that they’re presenting a free arts and heritage festival just to gather around each other, the historic grain elevators, an array of arts workshops and a brilliant lineup of live music, all free – please say hey if you see me there!

Old friends know I love a homecoming, therefore no surprise that the artist I’m most looking forward to seeing is recently repatriated Chris Nathan, an Angola native who’s lived in Nashville and St. Louis and toured nationally, as evidenced by this L.A live set presented by MTV…way back when they put the M in MTV. Help us welcome back Chris along with a new band he’s put together of local music luminaries!

Deeper dives into subjects that matter for social connection

State DOT says it will begin from the ground up on Kensington project – article, The Buffalo News – “…several community meetings set to kick off in October…”

Inside the human smuggling racket along U.S.-Canadian border– article, Investigative Post – “Asylum claims surged by 523 per cent between January and July this year at a border crossing south of Montreal…”

Canadian Beat: Travel to the U.S. continues to drop – article, BTPM NPR – “The sweeping tariffs from President Donald Trump, as well as increased immigration enforcement and detentions, and continued rhetoric from the White House about Canada becoming the fifty-first state, are the main issues that grate on the nerves of many Canadians. In August, Canadian travel south by automobile was down 34% from a year ago, and air travel was down 25%.”

We Are Going to Have to Live Here With Each Other – podcast, The Ezra Klein Show – “All I can say, for me, in the work I do, is I want to create a space that takes our disagreements seriously and takes the stakes of them seriously — but does so without deepening our divisions irreparably. We are going to have to live here with one another. We’re going to have to be friends and foes at the same time.”

Thank YOU for reading this far and being part of it all – extra thanks to everyone supporting this work with a membership at www.reconnecter.org!
