Today in 1991, Otzi the Iceman, a remarkably preserved 5,000-year-old natural human mummy, was discovered by German tourists in the Italian Alps. And besides being the premise of a great buddy comedy, science was able to determine he was on his way to see live comedy. What better way to honor Otzi than doing the same thing and maybe in the future a German tourist will find a social media post about it and you’ll be celebrated by the scientific community as well.

Saturday, Sept 19

Josh Wolf is a stand-up, actor and a New York Times best-selling author that first gained attention as a panelist on “Chelsea Lately.” He was a staff writer on “My Name is Earl,” “All of Us,” and “Raising Hope.” Wolf’s last special, “The Campfire Special” which blends music and comedy and features an array of special guests is available on YouTube for free and he co-hosts the podcast “Hey Maaan” alongside his son, Jacob Wolf.

ComedySportz Saturday match-up. Two teams “competitively” play short form improv games with suggestions from the audience, who also decides the winner. 7 p.m., tickets $18. 

The Widow Daredevil: Stage Performance. Rich Talarico, former Key & Peele Writer, brings his script to the stage about a 63-year old charm school teacher’s life takes an unexpected financial downturn, she attempts to reverse her fortunes by becoming a daredevil, inadvertently igniting a movement among her students that leads to women’s suffrage. 9 p.m., tickets $15.

Buffalo Improv House, 255 Great Arrow Ave., Suite 207, Buffalo.

Indie Summer continues with “The Slackers” and “Channel Surf” performing different styles of long form improv. 6 p.m., tickets $7. 

“Musical Improv Mixer,” sign-up to try musical improv, maybe for the first time. You will be paired with a fellow improviser and the scene will lead into song, facilitated by the host. 8:30 p.m., tickets $5.60.

Various Factors Presents: The Movie From Memory The Musical. A lot of popular movies have been made into musicals in the past few years; Back to the Future, Death Becomes Her, Frozen, etc. Bring the title of your favorite movie and watch it be turned into a musical with songs, dialogue and choreography made up on the spot. 8:30 p.m., tickets $15 presale or $20 general admission.

Comedy Night with Andy Pitz and Rob Lederman. Pitz is a Buffalo native and has appeared on “The Late Show with David Letterman, Live at Gotham Comedy and is one of the most played comedians on Sirius XM Radio. 

Sunday, Sept 20

Joseph Ducasse, also known as Sejoe, is thirdly known as the “Haitian Dave Chappelle” by the Haitian community. Ducasse made history with his first special “Nou Chaje ak Pwoblèm” which was the first Haitian Creole stand-up special on Amazon and his last special “Ayisyen Pale, Ayisyen Konprann” is also available on Amazon. Ducasse was raised in Haiti and saw political upheavals, a presidential coup d’état and an American military invasion, which influenced his comedic perspective and when he posted videos online seeking to cope with his decision to move away from a medical career, serendipity happened and a comedy career was born.

The Locked In Tour with Julia Leahy and Connor Willey comes to Helium for one night. Internet culture can take credit for the tour because after years of being compared to one another, tagged in each other’s posts, and being told they are the male and female versions of themselves, they decided to embrace the idea and come together in real life.

Road Less Traveled Productions, 456 Main St., Buffalo, 7:30 p.m., tickets $20.

An improvised two-act play with a cast of experienced improvisers and a special guest, usually a local actor, using the set of the current play running at the RLTP, ensuring the show is a blend of grounded theater and comedy. This week’s guest is Sandra Roberts who will join the resident cast of Kevin Di Lucente, Todd Benzin, Don Gervasi, Annie Moor and Jimmie Byrd.
