The Music Box: Perilous continues singles series. with ‘Glass of Something’
Buffalo Music: Keith Buckley’s Many Eyes among new releases
By Elmer Ploetz and Chloe Kowalyk
For Pauline Digati, the band Perilous is a second musical life.
Digati is best known as the singer in the legendary late ’70s, early ’80s Buffalo new wave band Pauline & the Perils (a group that should be in the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame, but isn’t yet) as well as the Scooters, the Promise, the Rain and Big Happy Family.
But after taking years — decades — largely off, she’s been the lead singer with Perilous for the past few years. This year the band has been releasing a song a month on Bandcamp, with an eye out for a label to eventually release their “summer of singles” songs, along with a few more, on a new album.
The newest song is “Glass of Something,” which came out Friday. Check it out here:
The band also comprises guitarist Bob Cat (New York/Boston), bassist Renee Rettie (Cortland) and drummer Paul Doherty (Syracuse). They’ve been recording at Jeff Moleski’s Moletrax studio in Syracuse.
While Pauline & the Perils was new wave with some reggae/soul influences, Perilous harks back to power pop and early punk (Ramones!). The new song is a little poppier, with a little less crunch, than most of their other recordings, but still fun.
You can find all of Perilous’ music at https://perilousny.bandcamp.com, including their full-length CD “Yeah!!!” (sold out in hard copy). And check out this song from that album, co-written by Digati and Bob Kozak (of the also legendary Jumpers):
You’ll be able to catch Perilous at the Continental reunion show Oct. 25 at the Town Ballroom.
Keith Buckley’s current band has new music
Former Every Time I Die singer Keith Buckley has new music out with his current band, Many Eyes. Here is the lyric video for “The Clock Behind All Other Clock,” the single from the “Combust” EP, which is due out on Sept. 19.
The band also includes Nick Bellmore on drums, Sean Vallie on bass and Alan Hague on guitar.
Many Eyes has a 15-show tour starting later this month, with the penultimate show at Buffalo’s Electric City on Oct. 12. Here’s the tour poster, which we’re just including because it has such cool artwork:

Buffalo’s Akloh. releases deluxe edition of recent album
Local musician and rock ‘n’ roller “Akloh.” has recently released a new album, “anthology” on July 3. He then released a deluxe edition of “anthology” on August 29.
Akloh.’s sound is hard-hitting, with striking guitar riffs and memorable jams. One of his most notable pieces is “LIcrisisFE,” an strong, edgy piece with a great play on words in the title (get it?).
Plus, the deluxe edition of “anthology” features earlier demos of songs, including demos dating back to 2011.
Akloh. is performing live with a six-piece group at Buffalo Iron Works for Vertigo Child’s 5 Year Anniversary Show this Friday, Sept. 12.
One more Sportsmen’s 40th video …
Our friend Paul Panzarella shoots great video, and he got this one of another friend (and Buffalo Hive Board of Directors member) Tom Makar during the Twang Gang jam at the end of the Sportsmen’s Tavern/Hall Family 40th year celebration back on Aug. 31. So we had to share it … a great version of “Like a Rolling Stone” in which Makar gives a sense of what the song would have sounded like with David Bowie singing it.
If you’re a Western New York performer or band and you have a new release or video, drop us a line at editor@thebuffalohive.com and we’ll help you let the world know about it … with a side helping of opinion, of course.
