BIFF Preview: ‘Ten Years Myanmar’
Saturday Sep Oct 12 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Journey’s End Cinema – FREE EVENT
In 2015 five Hong Kong filmmakers collaborated on “Ten Years,” offering a dark (but prescient) vision of their future one decade later. “Ten Years Myanmar” (2023) does the same for that nation (formerly known as Burma) which has been suffering under the yoke of a repressive military junta since a 2021 coup.
This collective effort from five Myanmar filmmakers reflects the beauty of the land and its people amidst repression and sadness. Although each section is different, the five filmmakers collectively invoke powerful themes of resilience, the transmigration of the soul, and the power of community.
Buffalo has been fortunate to be the home of many immigrants from Myanmar; “Ten Years Myanmar” provides a window into the world they left behind.
“Ten Years Myanmar” will be screened as part of the Buffalo International Film Festival Saturday, October 12, 4:00PM-6:00PM at the Journey’s End Cinema. Admission is free. For more information click here.
