Buffalo Hive listening session tomorrow at Merriweather Library
The Buffalo Hive is hosting its first Listening Session!
One of the goals in our nonprofit mission statement is to cover and serve underserved and underrepresented communities within Western New York, so we’ve starting by inviting people in various communities to come and talk to us and let us know what matters to them and needs to be covered.
We’re starting tomorrow (Saturday, June 21) at 3 p.m. at the Frank E. Merriweather, Jr. Library. We’re looking forward to hearing from everybody in the East Buffalo/East Side community who has an interest in the arts, culture and how they’re covered!
Here is the basic Q-and-A for the event:
- WHO ARE WE? The BUFFALO HIVE Hive is a new nonprofit online journalism organization dedicated to covering the ARTS and CULTURE of Buffalo and Western New York.
- WHAT IS OUR MISSION? Part of our mission is to report on underserved communities and to develop collaborations and contributors from those communities.
- WHY HERE, WHY NOW? We recognize that the Buffalo Challenger and the Buffalo Criterion are long-time institutions in the community, but we’re attempting to do something different, covering specifically arts and the community culture of the region.
- OUR GOALS? We want to find out what issues matter to you, what activities need to be covered, what things aren’t being covered by mainstream media like the TV stations or the Buffalo News. We also want to develop writers and contributors from the city’s various communities.
- HOW CAN YOU HELP? We want your input! Tell us what you want and what you need from a site like ours at our COMMUNITY LISTENING SESSION.
