Welcome to Hive Highlights; a weekly exhibits roundup from Buffalo Hive. This showcase is meant to point people to gallery openings, ongoing exhibits, closings, artist talks and happenings in the visual arts community of Western New York for the week/end ahead. These lists are not designed to be comprehensive, instead providing a keyhole into the creative hum of our region. 

1. Opening: On the Rise II; Emerging Artists of Color, Buffalo Arts Studio, Friday, Feb. 28-April 5, 2025.
Suite 500, Tri-Main  Center, 2495 Main Street, Buffalo.

What better way to wind up Black History Month than with this show, curated by Julia Bottom. The group exhibition features two- and three-dimensional work from Emma Brittain, Joel Mulindwa, Bianca L. McGraw, Faith Quinn, Emeka Wajed and XIII, with an opening reception taking place Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibition is part of M&T Fourth Fridays at Tri-Main Center.

2. Ongoing: Inkfluence, Castellani Art Museum, Feb. 20-Nov. 2, 2025. Reception March 6.
7 Varsity Dr., Niagara University

This exhibit sits at the intersection of modern tattoing and fine art, featuring the work of Western New York artists including David Mackenzie, Eva Jean Huber, Keith Kuzara, Shannon Kuzara, Kyle Tomlin, Jordy LeVea, Cole Tiedemann, Maer Rose, Olivia Bruning and Mark Zastrow.

The exhibit is curated into three sections, including wall-hunt artwork (paintings, mixed media, quilts); a set of profiles of the artists; and a multimedia section of short-form videos.

3. Closing: Amid/In WNY 2025, Hallwalls. Open through Friday, Feb. 28, 2025.
341 Delaware Ave., Buffalo.

The annual survey exhibition of Western New York artists has last call on Friday. Featured are Sheila Barcik, Nia Jael Bronner, Dylan England, Ed Hallborg, Dana Hatchett, Barbara Hart, Lawrence Kinney, RJ Melnyk and Sara Zak.
