This week’s guest, Armondo “Mondo” Galla, the older brother of fellow Buffalo Music Hall of Fame inductee Tony Galla, is a talented rock ’n’ roll and R&B singer, musician, and recording artist with a career spanning decades.

Getting his start early, Armondo sang and played guitar alongside his siblings, brother Tony and sister Mary Jane, in The Galla Trio. When Armondo was 16, the high point of their family performances was their appearance (with their mother) on TV’s Ted Mack Amateur Hour in February, 1959 where Mr. Mack mispronounced their names as “Gallo.”

By the 1960s, he was cutting 45s with the Sherwin Trio, produced by David Lucas, and later fronted the all-original late-‘60s group Mondo Bizarro alongside players Doug Morgano, Stan Szelest, Gary Mallaber, Ernie Corallo and Bruce Gordon.

Armondo was a mainstay of the regional scene from R&B revues at the Tralf, performing well into the 2000s.
