Podcast: Megan Brown joins Rockabilly Greg in the Flamingo Lounge

The dynamic voice behind Buffalo’s acclaimed rock band, Grosh, is none other than Megan Brown. Known for her powerhouse vocals and electrifying stage presence that anchors Grosh’s blend of hard rock, blues, and funk, Megan has been a fixture in the Western New York music scene for years. While Grosh continues to thrive—most recently with their Tim Lefebvre-produced album Start Again—she is also an accomplished performer in her own right, with a deep history in musical theatre and other local acts.

Megan Brown joined Rockabilly Greg In the Flamingo Lounge on October 8, 2025. This week, we’re excited to dive into a different side of her musical journey as we discuss her solo career and projects outside of the band Grosh.

The images of Megan below were taken when Grosh performed at the Kenan Center in Lockport, NY for the “Music in the Gardens” concert on September 5, 2025.

Megan’s first band, Dirty Smile, will be performing a Reunion set on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Rec Room! Tickets: shoprecroom.com

The below story is from a post Megan made on Facebook about the reunion show:

So, to those who were wondering, no, the band is not “back together” but we are really excited to do this reunion show and I hope there will be others down the road! If it weren’t for Erik’s nostalgic idea of having his band, El Scorcho play the same set that Weezer played at the 2014 Edgefest, where we opened for them, this probably wouldn’t have happened for quite some time still.

NOW. If you’re in for a long read and a little bit of my musical history, continue: If you didn’t already know, being in Dirty Smile was pretty much the most important thing in my life from 2012-2018. We were together even longer than that, if you count the fact that we stayed in the basement for about a year before we played our first gig.

I could say my performing career started when I was a very little girl, singing in churches with my dad, acting in stage and radio plays, etc. I could say maybe my career started the first time that I had a paid gig in high school.

But that first Dirty Smile gig at Tudor Lounge is really the start, in my eyes. It’s when I became a part of the Buffalo music scene and I’m still trucking after 13 years!

Just about everything that I know today about being successful in the music scene has a foundation from Dirty Smile. Without them, I wouldn’t know how to write lyrics and melody, how to book, promote and organize a show, how to earn respect in this little world.

I would have never been in Whiskey Reverb, where I learned more about collaborating, improvising and touring and where I found some transplant family members. I wouldn’t have some of my dearest friends. I wouldn’t be in Grosh. I wouldn’t have met Kevin!

We accomplished some pretty amazing things in those 6-7 years and I’ve included a little timeline of photos here to commemorate it all.

What a cool, full circle moment to have waited this long to do a reunion! I was barely able to drink in bars when we started and now, I’ll be playing this show with Dirty Smile AND El Scorcho, which, get this: The singer of El Scorcho is the drummer of Dirty Smile and the bass player of El Scorcho is my husband!

All of that to say: Singing these songs again, in this way will be a huge reflection for me. It will feel nostalgic, joyful and sometimes sad. I’m truly excited to feel it all and make this music again and have another opportunity to show my eternal gratitude to the bandmates that helped me start it all.
