Please come hungry to-NIGHT – Wednesday, July 22nd, 5-9pm – for the launch of the Sidewalk Food Club, a gathering of food trailers and trucks at the former Sun Cuisines at 1989 Niagara Street in Black Rock!

While Zin’s Kitchen (Thai) and G&T Tasty Wheels (Asian/American) sre now open daily from 12-9pm on Monday & Wednesday-Saturday, and 4-9pm Tuesday & Sunday, on Wednesdays from 5-9pm they’ll be joined by Sun Roll (Asian fusion), Mineo & Sapio Street Eats (Italian-American fusion), and Migdalia’s Cuisine (Puerto Rican), along with a rotation of DJs beginning with:

July 22nd – DJ Sike
July 29th – DJ Cutler
August 5th – DJ Chango
August 12th – DJ Auntie K

See below for an interview on WGRZ-TV with Sun Cuisines co-owner Kevin Lin along with Zin from Zin’s Kitchen and Thandar from G&T – all three originally from Burma, and the first TV interview for ZIn and Thandar! – in which Kevin explained that he was inspired to create the Sidewalk Food Club by seeing a food trailer park during a visit to Portland, Oregon, and sees this as a way to help the next generation of food entrepreneurs get started in a tough business.

It’s jazz fest season in Buffalo

Buffalo is blessed with three decades-running annual jazz festivals that happen over the course of four summer weekends; two of them, the Pappy Martin Legacy Masten Jazz Festival and the Pine Grill Jazz Reunion, take place in MLK Park over two Sundays each, while the Colored Musicians Club’s Queen City Jazz Festival returns to Lafayette Square this Saturday.

There’s ample evidence within these events – especially the Masten & Queen City Jazz Fests – that this music typically associated with our elders has been passed down to a passionate and talented next generation of musicians capable of carrying it on. Perhaps there’ll be evidence of this at the Pine Grill Reunion as well; as far as I’ve found so far, only the national headlining acts have been announced. All three festivals feature both nationally-touring and Buffalo-based artists.

And all three of these gatherings are free to attend, perfect for popping up a picnic and kicking back, with vendors as well as an open policy for folks to bring their own food and drinks. Such a brilliant time to be in Buffalo – bask in this abundance!
