Buffalo Comedy: Live comedy to see this weekend in Buffalo

It’s up to the history wonks to debate what’s the most historic event that happened on this day in the past, but for me, it’s Alexander Fleming discovering penicillin. Because going to see live comedy is a good decision, but statistically speaking, they can’t all be good decisions after that. 

Thursday, Sept 3

Buffalo Improv House, 255 Great Arrow Ave., Suite 207, Buffalo.
Improv Mixer, a relaxed environment to try out improv or just to watch. Sign-ups at 6:45 p.m., 7 p.m. start. $5 suggested or pay what you can. 

Mr. Goodbar, 1110 Elmwood Ave, Buffalo, 8 p.m. Free.
Open mic comedy on the second floor. Sign-ups at 7 p.m, hosted by the above average height Bennett Solowski.

The Wood and Wine’s Comic Strip, 25 N. Johnson Parkway, Buffalo. 7 p.m., free. 

A biweekly open mic in the Elmwood area hosted by Mamudu Kargbo. Sign-ups at 6:30 p.m.

Aries Spears returns to Buffalo for six shows. Spears has been an entertainer since he was 14 but rose to fame as a regular on Fox’s Mad TV and hasn’t stopped working since. Spears is a master and played over 140 characters and impressions during his MadTV stint.

Friday, Sept 4

Buffalo Comedy Collective, 155 Chandler Street, Buffalo. 

Comedy Sportz match-up. Two teams “competitively” play short form improv games with suggestions from the audience, who also decides the winner. 7 p.m., tickets $18. 

Get a Clue in The Kingdom: Drag & Comedy Show. The worlds of play, drag and comedy come together where the audience decides what kind of chaos will unfold. From spontaneous skits to unexpected songs, no two shows are the same. 9 p.m., tickets $20.

The Happy Hour Improv Jam. Try improv for the first time with experienced improvisers or practice what you have already learned. 6:30 p.m., tickets $5 or pay what you can. 

Indie Summer continues with “Down The Rabbit Hole” and “Pickle in the Middle.” 7:30 p.m., tickets $7. 

“Bad Haircut” will improvise a one act musical, with every lyric, melody and dance move invented in real time from an audience suggestion. 8:30 p.m., tickets $12 presale or $15 general admission.  

Saturday, Sept 5

BCC’s “Script Tease” troupe will improvise an entire movie inspired by audience suggestions. 9 p.m., tickets $18.

“Various Factors,” a broadway-esque improv musical comedy show where everything is made up on the spot, including lyrics, melodies and choreography. All inspired from audience suggestions. 7 p.m., tickets $20 presale or $25 general admission.

Piano Karaoke. Sign up to sing a song with a live piano player, or just hang out and watch people butcher your favorite song. A ticket from Various Factors gets you in for free, otherwise $5, 8:30 p.m.

Late Night Live Volume 6 hosted by Connor Mink and Brody Walsh, featuring standup from Chelsea May, Anthony Sundquist, Dion Lewis, Trebor Finnegan and Katarina Valentine. The Bird Soup House Band and Brendan Orr and Drew Smith will perform music.

Sunday, Sept 6

Rally on the River Late Night: Terre King and Friends Comedy Show. Keep your Bills gear on for the official late-night party of Rally on the River, following a full day of football and the Mafia Boat Parade, unwind with some laughs.

Monday, Sept 7

The Bird Soup Comedy Open Mic. A new open mic hosted by Brody Walsh and Connor Mink who love a good bird pun. Sign-ups start at 6 p.m. Free.
