What do you think so far? And what is next?

What you’re looking at right now is the prototype for The Buffalo Hive.

Here are some of the basics of our organization:

We’re a nonprofit journalism startup dedicated to covering the arts and culture of Buffalo and Western New York. That means everything from previews and reviews to analysis and commentary. We’ve put a few stories up as examples of the kinds of things we can do, but there is just SO MUCH MORE we can do.

It also means creating the broadest, most inclusive events calendar in the region. We’ve been testing our calendar system to make sure it works. You’ll see a few events we put up as tests. If you want to have your events put on the calendar, or if you want to put them up yourself, contact us at thebuffalohive@gmail.com.

We’re looking to do our real launch toward the end of July. While some other stories may go up between now and then, we’ll mostly be in the lab until, tinkering with the formulas and preparing to offer you a site that will be worthy of your support.

If you want to get involved, just go to our “How can you help” page. We’d love to meet you! And if we already know you, let’s talk!

Here are some of the people involved in The Buffalo Hive:

Editor-in-chief: Elmer Ploetz
Managing editor: Frank Housh
Copy editing/calendar consultant: Melinda Miller
Contributors: Andrew Galarneau, Jeff Miers.
