Infringement: Did Someone Say “Grubcercise”?

By Miggie Jean

Yesterday you were promised more singer-songwriters … Eugene V Debs hosted its share.

First, I would like to take a moment to appreciate the cozy, West Village – Manhattanesque type vibe of this relatively new venue; it is nestled in the midst of the Eastside scenery on East Delevan (a hidden gem).

Now onto the acoustics — Matt Sandy and Sardine both crooned with guitars in hand and songs in their hearts. Sardine also included some percussion instruments to complete the ambience. It was the perfect Sunday soundtrack.

Speaking of soundtracks, LSDANIEL sang his heart out at the Healing Sounds Cafe and Cellosion had a gorgeous set (I adore the cello). The singer-songwriters and poets had lots to say about heartbreak and politics (I can’t see the correlation). They showed up in numbers to serenade us on this sunny Sunday, it was a satisfying start to the week.

The Mothership had a full lineup with artists of different sounds and beautiful harmonies. YAWNi returned with some grunge and country-inspired originals, while Angie Lucie went all out with some alternative pop.

On my way to The Mothership, I received a call urging me to hurry because we had a last-minute addition. I showed up to the venue, camera in hand, to hear the vocals of 716 Awards nominee Genecist (hip-hop and r&b artist).

During his set, he spoke about the state of the world and living with chronic pain, thanking his wife who was seated in the back for her support. He channeled all that pain into an amazing, heartfelt production.

Now, it’s been said that variety is the spice of life. On this first Sunday of Infringement, we had to work off all the emotions from the crooners edition. Abby Rose led the pack at Ol’ Wondermoth with “Grubcercise.”

Now, this might be difficult to describe, so bear with me. There were yoga mats on the lawn, a speaker and Abby Rose led the karaoke portion with mic in hand. The playlist included a fusion of music about bugs and what can only be described as a millennials’ mixtape. The participants would move in a bug-like fashion for each song. We saw one gentleman twerking whilst lying on his stomach … very talented.

Ol’ Wondermoth ended the evening with a viewing of ”The Color of Pomegranates.”
