Investigative Post puts focus on civic reform

Buffalo Culture: Reinvent Albany founder featured speaker in Thursday event

It might sound a little hyperbolic, but the future of journalism is likely to be nonprofit.

John Kaehny

The Buffalo Hive is nonprofit, and so is the Investigative Post. With the decline of print publications and cutbacks at broadcast outlets, nonprofit journalism is increasingly important for providing community coverage.

That’s why Investigative Post’s speaker series is a major deal. Last month it hosted a forum on Buffalo’s Theatre District. You can find the Hive’s coverage HERE and HERE.

Now, on Thursday night, IP will be hosting a talk with John Kaehny, founder and executive director of Reinvent Albany. Investigative Post Editor Jim Heaney will be interviewing Kaehny about problems in Albany and reforms in Buffalo, where the city charter revisions are now under consideration.

What does that have to do with arts & culture, the Buffalo Hive’s wheelhouse? Lots, because the health of the city and the region is inextricably connected with the arts and culture scenes the region can support. Democratic involvement is a cultural issue.

The Q&A is will take place at 7 p.m. at Big Ditch Brewing, 55 East Huron St., in downtown Buffalo. Admission is $10 and includes a free ticket for a beer. Tickets can be ordered here.
