Letter from the Editor: Now is the time!
We’re celebrating our second birthday; meanwhile, you can help The Hive through Give 716
By Elmer Ploetz
It’s been awhile since the last Letter from the Editor, so let’s take some time to catch up.
Birthday Celebration tonight (7/15)
This is kind of a big week for us here at The Buffalo Hive. We’ve got our second birthday celebration tonight (July 15) at Buffalo Olde Brewery, 1221 E. Lovejoy. Admission is free, Jenuine Cello will be performing and we’ll have some birthday cake. Great food, great music and the Buffalo Hive … What more can you ask for?
It’s also a good chance to get some merch (T-shirts, drink koozies) and to meet some of The Hive’s editors, contributors and board members. You can even tell us what we’re getting wrong — or hopefully what we’re getting right!
We’ve published over 2,000 articles since launching in July of 2024, plus thousands of events in our events calendar. We’ve done it while paying our contributors (although we wish we could pay them more!), and we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished. Let’s celebrate!
In case you can’t make it and would still like to be part of things, we’ve set it up so you can support us by buying a piece of virtual cake. You can do that HERE.
Give 716
We’re excited to be participating in the Give 716 program for the first time. It’s a fundraising event in which the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres foundations, with buy-in from other local organizations, build in rewards and matches for contributions to regional nonprofits — like us! You’ve probably already seen some promo on it from other worthy local nonprofits.
So if you can, pitch in. You might win tickets to an exhibition game in the new football stadium; your contribution may be doubled by one of the affiliated organizations.
You can go HERE to contribute or just use this QR code. The online event actually kicks off tonight, but shifts into high gear on Thursday (7/16).
We’ve got a lot of other things happening, but those will wait for another letter. Meanwhile, hope to see you tonight!
