Please join us this coming Thursday for our next Investigative Post event, focusing on reforming city hall and state government – on Thursday, April 30th, starting at 7pm at Big Ditch Brewing Company (55 E. Huron Street, downtown Buffalo), I-Post Editor Jim Heaney will interview John Kaehny, co-founder and executive director of Reinvent Albany, one of the state’s leading reform advocates. Topics will include changes under consideration to Buffalo’s city charter, including ethics reform and nonpartisan primaries and ranked choice voting – read a preview here including an interview of Kaehny – and the shortcomings of state government. Tickets can be purchased here!

Musings on Music
Larkin Square summer concert lineups announced
I’ve been honored to book the lineups for live music in Larkin Square for 12 years now, as I did from its founding in 2012 through 2017 and returning in 2021. We’ve made it a coveted stage for Buffalo musicians, and I consider every inquiry in curating lineups that reflect the talent, diversity, and heart of our city.
While the majority of acts on Live at Larkin Wednesdays are returning by request, we have some new ideas and veteran artists shaking it up from last year. And in turn, as usual, the lineup for Food Truck Tuesdays is almost entirely different from last year, with most acts making their Larkin Square debut. Your feedback is welcome.
In the early years, I also worked the events themselves; these days my work is done by the time the band is playing, so I’m often sitting comfortably in the crowd – please say hey if you see me there!
One detail to notice: when the Live at Larkin tribute night has “does” in the title – such as Handsome Jack does CCR – that means they’ll be paying tribute to said legend in their second set, after playing whatever they want in the first. Handsome Jack is the originator of this – after the world-touring Lockport natives made their Larkin debut in 2023, I was asked if they’d be down to return the next year with a set of Creedence Clearwater Revival songs to satisfy the masses since their original sound is similar, and fortunately they obliged. Now we have three bands taking on such a task, with the other two being new this year. See below for videos of Handsome Jack at Larkin playing a song of their own followed by a CCR hit, courtesy of Jeff Tracy – and shine your light on Larkin Square this summer!
